It's a week of confessions over here, apparently.
So the latest?
I love Amish fiction.
There. I said it.
This is on my mind because Jeff asked me what I was reading on my Kindle the other night and I refused to tell him. Because I thought he would laugh at me. Once I explained to him what Amish fiction was, I mean.
When I was younger my mother worked for a church. I would go to work with her on days that school was out and hang out in the church library, where the only books they stocked in the young adult section were Amish fiction novels. Yeah, I have no idea either.
And that's the story of how I got hooked on reading a lot of books about Lancaster county and prayer kapps and being put under the ban.
My mother got me a kindle for Christmas and do you know what genre totally dominates the free kindle e-books?
Yes. Amish. Fiction.
So I give in and I'm explaining the whole concept of Amish fiction to Jeff, telling him that one thing I like about the books is that they have romance without sex scenes.
Twenty minutes later I storm into the den. "Jeff! There is totally a sex scene in this book! One minute he is tending to the farm and then I flip the page and they're rolling around in the hay loft! GRAPHICALLY rolling! It's like some sort of Amish Harlequin novel!" I was quite taken aback by it. You may now commence to call me a prude.
Jeff says I'm quite possibly the only 20-something girl on the planet that loves these books. But given that they are always on the top-rated free Kindle list, I think there's a bunch of other closeted Amish fiction lovers out there. Right? RIGHT?

Yep, there’s quite a few of us out there…
Yep, count another closeted reader of Amish fiction here. Different reasoning, but yeah…it’s not something I generally ‘fess up to unless I get caught
Quit reading and SLEEP
I too love reading Amish fiction. I’ve never seen the book your reading. I think I’ve read every Beverly Lewis book.
I don’t usually spend money on books…but Amish fiction is an exception. During my pregnancy I bought books and spent many happy hours on the couch reading! I love them all!
Hmmm… never read Amish fiction before (unless Jodi Picoult’s Plain Truth counts). Sounds like something I’d like though. Definitely worth checking out.
Yep, another “secret” Amish fiction lover. I’ve read every one in our library. And I’m fighting buying more to read on my iPad.
I love reading them too!! Haven’t read any sex scenes in them yet tho! Weird!! Ha ha
I read them, too – mostly Beverly Lewis – and yes, it’s addicting!!
Yes I am a amish novel reader as well
RIGHT! have you read Plain Truth? it’s good.
I’m reading Amish fiction right now! I’m in the middle of the Beverly Lewis series “Abram’s Daughters.” So good
I am a recent Kindle convert, had got alot of the Amish books off the free list….LOVE them!!!
do you not love the kindle? i get a lot of the free ones amazon offers. Have bought some amish ones too. would love to share my list with you. if you are on facebook there is a “inspired reads” which is only christian reads. found some great ones that way.Karen kingsberry is awesome. lot of series books by her. i have so many books on my kindle

I’m a loooooong way from 20 something but Amish fiction dominates my kindle too
)
YOU ARE NOT ALONE!
I’m 22 (almost 23) and I LOVE Amish fiction! There was a week in college where I LITERALLY DID NOT SLEEP because I had discovered a series (a friend gave me the whole stack of books to borrow) and I had to finish every book. I think I got MAYBE 5 hours of sleep that whole week. Addicted.
It’s nice to hear that someone cool likes Amish fiction too
I totally LOVE Amish fiction! and I am now even more convinced to go get my kindle!
I’ve never read any Amish fiction. BUT…I would probably love it. I’ve decided I’m becoming quite the prude these days. Ha. I don’t know how or where we found each other…but I follow a woman on twitter that writes Amish fiction @triciagoyer I will have to check out one of her books now
I’ve been reading Amish fiction since I was around 18 and i’m now 27. I love reading them for very much the same reason. I will have to check out more about the free ones on Kindle.
I haven’t read any of the Amish ones quite yet but have three that a friend gave me so I may soon join the ranks LOL. I love the Christian authors Kristen Heitzman and Terri Blackstock and they don’t have the graphic sex scenes either or bad language.
haven’t tried Amish fiction yet, BUT, Jane Austen novels are usually either free or $.99 on Kindle. Just FYI
omg–I’ve been wondering for the last year and a half who reads all the Amish fiction I shelve at the library. Now I know! There’s a whole cult of young Amish fiction lovers out there, and you are the ringleader!
You’re definitely not alone! I have a whole collection on my Kindle that’s reserved for every free Amish book I can get my hands on, even if it’s the fifth in the series! I just wait to find the others the next time
I read my first Beverly Lewis novel a few months ago. If I didn’t have a backlog of other books I’ve been wanting to read…I’d probably have read 3 or 4 more of her novels by now. For a year & a half we lived in Wilmington DE and commuted to work in Philly. While we lived there we made several trips through Lancaster County. It was truly fascinating to see in this day & age of technology that there are still people who choose to live without it.
how nice is it. I like the style.

Hi Kayla!
LOVED your post today! For oh, so many reasons. Hope you don’t mind if I pass it along to my bleader friends (blog + readers = bleaders).
Glad we’ve connected! Glad you’re willing to take a chance on Amish fiction. It’s full of surprises!
Warmly, Suzanne Woods Fisher
Sounds like a great book! I just love SWF’s radio show also!
Love, love, love Amish fiction!
you know there’s Christian fiction that isn’t Amish, right? and it’s the same thing with romance but no sex. When I was younger I read a lot of Lori Wick and Jeanette Oak. Heck, I even read Grace Livingston Hill (she was like the Christian romance trailblazer back in the day.) Good times . . .
An Amish fiction author pointed me to your page!
I have this love for Amish fiction, in a bad way. I follow 15 different authors and have all of their books on a spread sheet so I can keep track of what I have read and what is coming out next so I don’t miss anything. Obsessive? Nah, I hope it is just organization!!!
I love Plain Truth. One of the best books. I’m addicted to Amish Fiction. Got started with Beverly Lewis.
I read that series three times. Love them.
I’m another amish fan, and I’m in Scotland so there are even some fans in the UK!!
I got a kindle recently but not discover much free amish novels…
I’m new to reading Amish fiction but *love* it! A neighbor loaned me a Beverly Lewis book & I was hooked! Now I’m branching out & reading as many Amish themed books as I can find.
Ahem I have NO idea what you’re talking about. None at all:)
I am on the longggg side of 20 and am not a secret lover of Amish fiction. It has been a favorite of mine for years. Thankful that the younger people are getting in to reading it….great reading. Always points me to God.
I’m intrigued. I used to be totally obsessed with the idea of hopping out of the car on our family summer road trips (in Pennsylvania, of course) and wandering onto an Amish farm and asking them to adopt me. And convincing them that I should be allowed to keep my Discman, and then I’d introduce them to the Spice Girls and they would be forever thankful. I had no idea these books existed and I bet that my small-town library probably has a whole shelf full of them! I’m gonna look!!
A friend of mine asked her agent what was selling right now and the agent said, “Ever though of writing Amish fiction?”
So, apparently not only is it a big seller, but publishing houses are looking to get their hands on more of it to meet the demand. Go figure.
Hi, I’ve never read amish fiction before, Do you have any free kindle titles for me so I could check it out?
