It’s Beginning To Look A Lot Like Christmas

I know. I KNOW.

That’s the tiny 4 foot tree in our foyer. I’ve started slowly pulling out our Christmas decorations in anticipation of putting our tree on Thursday. In this house Thanksgiving is celebrated with turkey, tree-trimming and the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade.  Just kidding. I can’t cook a turkey.

Scarlette is obsessed with looking at her reflection in the glass ornaments. Also a big obsession? The removal and attempted eating of said ornaments. The good news is that she can’t make it into the foyer unassisted, thank you makers of baby gates.  The bad news is that I believe our big tree will have to be decorated from mid-tree up.

I had pinned the  headbands and shoes Scarlette is wearing to my Pinterest boards so when Grace from Gracious May asked if I’d like a set to review AND one to give away, I was dance around the kitchen excited. Seriously, ask my husband.  So this is a surprise give away post! Surprise! One of my readers will win a Candy Cane Headband & Red Rosette Shoe Set that Scarlette is wearing in the size of their choice for their little one! Click the readmore link to enter!

And then your little one can match my little one on Christmas. We’ll be twinsies! Because seriously, Scarlette looks adorable in that getup. She’s going to look even more adorable on Christmas Day in her actual Christmas dress with her little red shoes and her sweet headband. I can’t wait.

Oh and also? You can use the code KAYLAAIMEE for free shipping! I had a great experience with Gracious May – it shipped super quick and I love the shoes. They are perfect for early walkers because they are non-slip on the bottom. I always have to take Scarlette’s dressy shoes off so that she can stand up because the bottoms are too slippery so I was really happy to see that she could stand safely in these. Everything is really well made, even the underside of the headband has detailed stitching to make it look nice and you don’t even see that part. I am really happy with the set and think y’all will be too!

Here is a close-up look at the Candy Cane set:

Adorable! My 4 month old would be precious in this little set :)

Awwwww . . . . the headband and shoes are so cute. Scarlette is workin’ those accessories. Good luck with the tree situation. It can be pretty rough keeping a toddler away. Back in the day when play pens were big and square, I knew a lot of moms and dads who set their trees up inside of their babies’ playpens. My mom and dad used to set our tree up on a 2-foot high platform that my dad built. Then they put the manger scene underneath. No one bothered the tree, but the plaster figurines from the creche got chipped. They got a lot of love.

I have a great-niece that will be born any day now. I would love to win this for her. Happy Thanksgiving!

  4. 4

Oh my goodness! My neice needs those shoes and headband! So cute!

  5. 5

One of my favorite holiday traditions is decorating a “Charlie Brown” type Christmas tree and taking it to the cemetery and putting it where my dad is buried. We decorate it with crazy things that remind us of my dad. Like, one Christmas, he gave half of the kids a bolt, and the other half a nut and then told them to play together. Or, he’d take baseball cards and cut them in half and then tell us we have to share them. Christmas was my dad’s favorite holiday, so it helps us to remember him and his crazy ways by doing the Christmas tree.

  6. 6

my favorite holiday tradition: every Christmas the last person to wake up is dubbed “The Scrooge” and has to wear reindeer antlers (a headband) for the rest of the day. It started when we were all little and my dad still enforces it to this day. It was particularly funny when we were all in our early to mid 20s and their were no grand kids yet. Now it is hysterical to see all the little kids running around pointing and giggling as one of “the adults” has to wear an antler headband all day.

SO CUTE! I want for my daughter! :)

  8. 8

My absolute favorite tradition is the whole family putting up the Christmas tree on Thanksgiving weekend. Then all of the wrapped presents go under and so do the kids and we take pictures of them decorating or eating the ornaments. It’s also become a traditions that my son tries to wear te stockings every year. So stinkin cute.

BTW. Scarlette is totally cute in that outfit and I totally understand what you mean about the early walkers having slick shoe bottoms.

  9. 9

In our experience ( with four under six) is that the safest place for the tree and presents is in one of those free standing playards. Yes the tree looks like it’s in baby jail but the tree is safe from toddlers, and toddlers are safe from tree ;P

  10. 10

oh my stars! ADORABLE! perfect for my sweet baby girl who will be 6 months old right before Christmas. our favorite tradition is driving around one of the bigger neighborhoods in town when they have all of their lights and luminaries up, while sipping cocoa or spiced cider. there is one house that has its own radio frequency and sets their lights to blink in time to traditional holiday songs. LOVE! thanks for the chance to win!

  11. 11

She is just the cutest thing ever! We put up our Christmas tree last night and our 9 month old little girl seems to just like to look at it. No trouble yet, but who knows?

I have an absolutely adorable ten month old neice, Braelynn, who would look fabulous in these lovely accessories!

I NEED that headband!!!!!! LOL! Happy Thanksgiving! This time of year we spend making our own cinnamon decorations. They make our tree smell heavenly and it is a fun time with the family.

    Sheila McGowan says:

I love traditions too!!! I have made sure we carry them out each year, even if the kids were to little to remember. It is important to start early. We always put our tree up the weekend AFTER Thanksgiving and then watch National Lampoons Christmas Vacation movie. The kids are already excited to get to this!!!! So I am!

    Thanks

  15. 15

    That set is super adorable!

  16. 16

My goddaughter would look SO adorable in those!!! Every year my whole entire family on my mother’s side meets up at our family church and has communion..its always so beautiful, with the lights dimmed and everything smelling like cinnamon and christmas trees. Thats one of my most favorite memories :)

  17. 17

I don’t know that we have any family traditions yet. My little one is only 4 months old! I do suppose though, that DH and I get together with friends and go out on snowmobile to look for Christmas trees. Also, friends of ours always have a party on Christmas Eve that we always attend (and babies are always there, so we’ll go again this year).

  18. 18

We make pumpkin waffles the day after thanksgiving and then go and pick out the perfect christmas tree. That weekend we spend the mornings in our pjs and decorate our house.

  19. 19

Favourite holiday tradition….. Mostly I just love getting together with my family, oh and my Nanas trifle, YUM!

  20. 20

There is some old German tradition of hiding a pickle on the Christmas tree for everyone to find. Years ago, my mom picked up one of these ornamental pickles in a Texas German town gift shop. Ever since, it has been so fun to hide the pickle in the tree and have everyone search for it. Whoever finds it first gets to be the next to hide it :)

  21. 21

You are going to think I’m insane, I am, but that’s besides the point. Dave and I go to Jack in the box for Thanksgiving. We’ve done for the past 7 years and its out little tradition. Love it!

  22. 22

Favorite holiday tradition so far….going to Celebration in the Oaks in New Orleans. But…since I don’t think we’ll be doing that this year because of our quarantine, I am so looking forward to making new family traditions with Addison. And she would look absolutely adorable in this set…just saying… :)

      Jessica Shaffer says:

I love Celebration in the Oaks! I haven’t been in over a decade, but my family always went when I was a kid. So beautiful!

  23. 24

True story….when my son was 16 months, he picked up a Christmas ornament, put it to his mouth and it shattered. He swallowed the glass and had to have surgery to make sure that there wasn’t any left inside his little body. Thank goodness, everything was fine but from that day on, we only put the balls high up on the tree (that was before shatterproof ornaments).

  24. 25

One of our favorite traditions is the day after Thanksgiving we have an elf named Fred who comes to our house. He plays lots of tricks around here while also keeping an eye on my daughter so he can report back to Santa. Also I make cookies called pizzelles every year. They are fantastic and I have to make enough to give to everyone in the family.

  25. 26

My favorite tradition is that my mom and sister and I all go to a place and each paint a christmas pottery piece. We started this a few years ago to help my sister and I start our Christmas decorating items for our homes someday. Just went a couple of weeks ago and picked up our pieces from this year. Such fun!

  26. 27

    We have several traditions I love! But I’d have to saw driving around the neighborhoods at night looking at the pretty lights ranks really high up there! Also Chinese food on Christmas Eve. :) {They were the only place open when that tradition started.}

  27. 28

Favorite holiday traditions… my family has yet to figure out how to do Christmas big, so we don’t have a lot of traditions yet, but I think one of my favorite things I’ve forced them into doing is to bake cookies like maniacs on Christmas eve, so that we have fresh out of the oven yummies.

  28. 29

Every year, my husband and I go to my parents house for Thanksgiving. After the meal, we go with my entire family to cut down a tree. Then we bring it home, set it up, and drink hot chocolate. My favorite part, though, is when we videotape my dad recapping the entire year’s events. It’s always fun to remember what has happened in the past year.

  29. 30

One of our favorite traditions is going to downtown Kansas City and seeing Santa Claus at Crown Center. He is such a nice man and always the same one every year. The light and everything are so beautiful here.

  30. 31

My favorite part of the Holiday’s is FAMILY. Last September we welcomed home a beautiful baby girl. She’s been such a blessing and has made me ever so thankful. (not going on a sob story here) but three months ago we received devastating news into our 2nd pregnancy at 20 weeks, there was no heartbeat. This just reminds me how much to be thankful for during the holiday seasons, and every day! We are so blessed to have a wonderful family, and as we grow together I can’t wait to make new memories!

  31. 32

SUPER CUTE! I’m going to spend some time on their site today. :D
I’ve continued the tradition of Christmas Stockings in our household. I didn’t realize how much I loved them until I moved out, and my mom decided we were ‘too old’ to get stockings. WHAT? This is an untruth! We are never too old for a stocking stuffed with little toys, silly pens, candies, silly putty, hairclips, etc.! So, this year, when we are pulling back our spending, our budget for Christmas is JUST for stockings.

  32. 33

Awe would love to win this adorable set! I never win anything. Family curse! Lol. So not really expecting to win.. BUT never hurts to try! Every Christmas my whole family gathers at my grandmothers & almost every family brings something homeade to add to the feast:) I just love getting the whole family together. It’s so hard to get a family of our size all in one place at the same time. Lol!

  33. 34

I don’t want to be entered in the giveaway, just wanted to comment on the absolute adorableness of Scarlette. I don’t know how you get ANYTHING done. I’d just be staring at her ALL LIVING DAY! Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family.

  34. 35

My favorite holiday tradition is decorating the Christmas tree – growing up, we always popped popcorn, put on the Bing Crosby and Danny Kaye classic White Christmas, and drank egg nog till we got tummy aches while stringing lights and finding the perfect spot for our favorite ornaments (mine was a blown glass sphere with a pegasus inside, I had to find a spot where the light would shine through and make it glow.) Now that I’m getting ready to celebrate my daughter’s first Christmas, the hubby and I will be taking her to a real tree farm to cut down our pick and then heading home for popcorn (or meltaway puffs for her,) White Christmas, and egg nog! Cannot wait.

    Amy Christeson says:

Our family tradition is waiting til the weekend after thanksgiving and decorating the tree and putting up all our xmas decorations. i love decorating the house. and im glad i get to spend it with my son this year. Awesome giveaway!

  36. 37

LOVE the shoes!!! Our Christmas tradition is going to Grandma and Grandpa’s house to open gifts and have a HUGE family feast. Christmas is also Grandma’s birthday so we celebrate her too. <3 the holidays.

  37. 38

Scarlette is SO CUTE in that set, goodness!
My favorite traditions… hmmm. One thing I’ve loved doing for years is watching the movie A Christmas Story for 24 hours on TBS on Christmas Eve. I only watch it all the way through once, but it doesn’t feel right unless it’s on in the background! I also love going to the petstore, and buying a few bags of dog food to put in the donation container.
This is our first year with a baby, so I’m not sure what our family traditions will be. I know I want to start some, but I don’t know what they’ll be lol.

  38. 39
    Amanda-Mae Zwanenbeek says:

We started a new tradition last Christmas when my little girl was born, every year we go to the shops and pick one special decoration for her. my plan is when is is grown and leaving home she will have a box of decorations for her own tree each with the year written on it in pen on the bottom.

    kristen self says:

we don’t really have thanksgiving traditions… but we enjoy spending a lot of time with family!

  40. 41

I’m just realizing that we don’t really have any Christmas traditions yet- guess we need to create some!

  41. 42

We always watch Christmas vacation! It’s our favorite Christmas tradition. Our baby girl is only 5 months, so im sure we have many more traditions to come!

  42. 43

After buying parking lot Christmas trees for the first 3 Christmases we were married, last year we cut down our own tree at a farm and decided to definitely make that a family tradition from then on! I can’t wait to bring our almost-4-month-old this year :)

  43. 44

My favorite tradition is our church’s candle light Christmas Eve service. It’s such a blessing because we are overly involved with so many activities and volunteer positions during church, that we often don’t have the opportunity to sit in the pews and enjoy the service itself. Christmas Eve service is the one time where we make sure we sit together as a family, enjoy the music and worship, and truly remember what Christmas is about!

  44. 45

My favorite tradition that I can’t wait to start with my daughter for Christmas is getting a new ornament for the tree each year. I can’t wait to get her first ornament this year!

  45. 46

Hello adorable!!! My favorite tradition is just having everyone come home for the holidays and spend time together!

  46. 47

They are SO cute!! My favorite tradition is on Christmas Eve. We go to church, come home and have chili or clam chowder, then read the Christmas story in the Bible and then open presents. Love Christmas!!

  47. 48

I would love that set for my almost 1-year-old daughter!! One of my favorite traditions is kind of silly :) . When I was little, my brother and I were always in the Christmas pageant at church. We did two performances: one in the afternoon and one at around 7 or 8. Because of the length of time between the performances there was no time to go home and eat a proper Christmas Eve dinner. Instead, all of the kids and our families would order Chinese and eat it together. We have carried on this tradition of ordering Chinese food every Christmas Eve.
One tradition we started with the kids is Christmas pajamas and a new ornament in their St. Nicks stocking so that they can enjoy them for most of December.

  48. 49

    Adorable :)

So many favorite traditions… but DH & I have always spent an evening driving around looking at Christmas lights together – that was our first date.

  49. 50

I’ve been reading your blog for a few months now. I found your link on 2peas and read back through Scarlette’s birth story.

I’ve been meaning to comment but haven’t since there are already usually a ton of comments. I love the way you write and hearing about all the challenges and joys you have being mommy to Scarlette :)

My favorite holiday tradition is opening stockings before presents on Christmas morning. Stockings were always as fun as the presents for me. My mom would have little wrapped gifts and of course candy and all kinds of other stuff in there.

  50. 51

Our little family of four open up our Christmas stocking’s together on Christmas morning. It’s such a fun, relaxin, and memorable time together as a little family. It’s easy to get caught up in all of hype surrounding Christmas so this time together is that time is so special for us.

I would love to win this giveaway for my little girl!

  51. 52

    Oh my cuteness!
Scarlette is looking so precious & getting so big. :)
Favorite tradition is watching A Christmas Story, over and over and over again on Christmas Eve. Also listening to traditional Christmas music. Those songs bring back such nostalgia.

  52. 53
    Angie Schmitt says:

First, where did you find Scarlette’s top. My daughter needs one. Immediately.

Anyway…every year we take our daughter (now daughters) on a local train ride to the “North Pole.” We have hot chocolate, sing carols and watch our oldest have a meltdown when Santa boards the train. Not sure if we are creating trauma or memories…..time will tell.

  53. 54
    Jodi Herchold says:

My favorite holiday tradition is going to my uncle’s house for breakfast on Christmas morning.

  54. 55

Last year we filled travel mugs and sippy cups up with hot chocolate and in our Christmas PJs we drove around the neighborhood on Christmas Eve, looking at Christmas lights. It was so much fun! Since our family is young, we’re deciding from year to year what traditions we will keep or pitch. This is one tradition we will be repeating!

Scarlette is so adorable – I’m glad you all are doing so well and that she is such a healthy little girl! Your thoughts on her first birthday brought me to tears. Blessings to you all!

  55. 56
    Jessica Shaffer says:

My family’s Christmas tradition is to watch “National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation” on Christmas Eve. We also like to drink champagne and eat lots of bad-for-you finger foods. (lil smokies-yum!) I look forward to starting new traditions with my nine month old, Sophie. We’re nervous about putting up a tree, that child is into everything!!

  56. 57

Wow you guys put up your trees early! We are strict with the twelve days of Christmas, the tree goes up on Christmas eve and comes down on Twelfth Night. Always a real tree. I love it because you never have time to tire of it, and the tree never looks old and tired.

We always bake Swiss christmas biscuits, and we always have stockings in the morning. When I’m visiting my Dad in NZ for Christmas, it’s obviously summer rather than winter, so the stockings always have water pistols hidden in them, so when the first person finds theirs it’s a race for everyone to find their own, fill them and get spraying before the first person soaks everyone. The dogs join in with the running around and shrieking and get hopelessly over-excited and it’s chaotic but fantastic fun.

  57. 58

My youngest gal would rock that set!!!

  58. 59

Hit send too soon…my favorite tradition is the Candlelight Christmas Eve service a church!

  59. 60

My favorite holiday tradition is to see the Thanksgiving Parade while cooking the turkey. Even though this year things are different. The tree is already up since my daughter came home for the holidays and she loves decorations, so I decorated to surprise her. We will be going to Cracker Barrel to have lunch and then have a small dinner here at home,
Scarlette is such an adorable baby. Love to read her story.

One family tradition we do is put a train around the bottom of our tree. Our kids love watching it go around.

  61. 62

Our traditions will begin this year with our own family!

  62. 63

My favorite tradition is the Christmas eve party at my mom’s she always plans the most fun games and cooks yummy yummy food!

  63. 64

My Little Bit would look oh-so-precious in that set! As for Holiday Traditions my favorite one is quite new at our house–playing Santa and then seeing the reaction to the gifts. Last year, at almost two, my son was literally dumbfounded with excitement, so this year figures to be even better. I can’t wait!

  64. 65

My brothers and I always had to sit on the steps while my parents went and checked to make sure that Santa had come (i.e., make coffee/cocoa, plug in the tree, etc.). We have a picture of us on the steps every year. I even had to sit on the steps the last year I lived at home…in my late 20s! Now I just need to figure out how to get a 9 month old (5 months adjusted) to “sit” on the steps. It will just have to be a group shot this year! I also remember you posting about new pajamas on Christmas. Another favorite tradition of mine was waking up in my new pajamas! My mom used to change me into them after I had fallen asleep. That tradition was only when I was little though! Ha!

  65. 66
    Rene Burress says:

Super cute! Our tree also will only be decorated from the middle up.

  66. 67

RIght now my favorite tradition is Elf on the Shelf. My 4 year old loves it and wakes up ready to search for Scout (our elf). My husband and I enjoy hiding him each night for her to find first thing in the morning. So much fun.

  67. 68

I have to ditto the suggestion to put your tree in baby prison. We have one of those big 8 panel baby yard things and it is going around our tree for the 3rd year in a row. I started draping garland on it and handing oru stockings there so at least tree prison looked festive :) Bonus was that there was enough room for the presents to go in prison too so they didn’t get ripped up before the big day.

  68. 69

I’m really big on traditions. This is my first official Christmas with my husband and his family (last year we were in an apartment, there wasn’t really room for a tree). This year I’m pushing Christmas big time, big tree, big everything! The tradition that I am carrying on in my family is junk food. I know, silly right? My parents were real sticklers about no junk food, but the week or two before Christmas my parents would load all us kids in the car and we’d get to have free run of the grocery store, they didn’t say no to anything! Then on Christmas we’d eat junk food and open presents. It will always be my favorite holiday.

My daughter would love the head band and shoes, she already has a perfect Christmas holiday dress and it would look perfect. :)

  69. 70

I love these photos! And the holiday outfit is gorgeous!

I’m stealing a new tradition from pinterest. I thrifted 24 Christmas books for about $.50 each. They are wrapped and numbered for an advent. Combines learning and the fun of seeing the pile get smaller as Christmas gets closer! Much love to you and yours for the holidays!

  70. 71

One of our favorite Christmas traditions is going down to Tucson to take a hayride through Winterhaven – an older neighborhood with incredible Christmas light displays. Every year we spend the day strolling through the Fourth Avenue Street Fair and the evening oohing and aahing over the decorations. It’s pretty fantastic. This will be our 10th year as a couple, but our first with our daughter. Can’t wait! :)

  71. 72
    Sarah Mahiques says:

My favorite tradition is getting the christmas tree and decorating it a week before Thanksgiving. We actually decorate the whole house the same day. but i love picking the tree out and bringing it home. It just reminds me of the holidays.

  72. 73

My husband reads the Christmas story from Luke 2 to our whole family every year! It’s a sweet time.

  73. 74

My favorite Christmas tradition is driving around and looking at Christmas lights!

  74. 75

Definitely watching home alone and elf ASAP!

  75. 76

Going with the family to Christmas Eve worship service at our church is my favorite tradition!

  76. 77

Our traditions have been a bit messed up the last few years as family gets married and has their own children – which is good! But… I really look forward to waking up Christmas morning, knowing we now have our own 2 beautiful little girls who are anticipating getting the go-ahead to leave their rooms and see what Santa left them. Love it….

  77. 78

Oh I would love to win these for my daughter! I’ve always wanted her to have a pair of Gracious May’s :-)

My favorite holiday tradition is trimming the tree the first weekend of December. It’s always a daytime activity and we play music and eat all while doing it. I have so many fond memories growing up of going and picking out the biggest, fullest tree we could find at the tree lot. Now that I have a baby girl of my own, I am so excited to do these things with her!

  78. 79

I love those beautiful items. Look at Scarlette standing up!!!

  79. 80

They are adorable. My favourite tradition is making x-mas decorations with my little girls. This year we ordered christmas fairy things to make and do from Amazon. We’ll be making painted snow fairy cards and ice fairies all afternoon. Precious girl-time!

  80. 81

Absolutely beautiful goodies!!! I love Christmas traditions too!! We always head out on the afternoon of Black Friday to get our Christmas tree. We go to a tree farm & take the tractor out to the back woods to search for the perfect tree. My husband & children all take turns sawing away until it is done. We come home & stand it up and put the lights on. Saturday morning, once we are all up we decorate with our ornaments. Super fun!!

  81. 82

    awesome giveaway! such darling accessories

  82. 83

I put our 4 ft tree on a table. Having a highly mobile almost 10 month old, it just seemed like the most reasonable thing to do. I’m hoping it survives!
