She loves Jesus and America too

scarlette fourth of july
When I was a little girl we put our hands on our hearts and said the Pledge of Allegiance each morning in rhythm with the booming voice that came over loud speaker. And before we sat down we sang out in little voices“Oh beautiful for heroes proved in liberating strife, who more than self their country loved and mercy more than life. America, America God shed His grace on thee, and crown thy good with brotherhood from sea to shining sea.”

This morning Scarlette and I sang “This Land Is Your Land, This Land Is My Land” because even though you no longer have to stand for the pledge and the songs are not sung it’s important to me that she grows up knowing, despite all of the politic-ing she might hear,  that freedom comes with a price we are to be ever grateful for. And that we are blessed to be born into a land of liberty.

Obviously Scarlette is a really big fan of singing about America :) Also, I vividly remember singing My Country Tis Of Thee as well as the above songs in the morning during elementary school. My husband has no memory of this whatsoever. We went to the same school, y’all. One of us is a crazy person, so someone confirm that it isn’t me, k?

Happy Independence Day! ♥ ♥ ♥

Just when I think she couldn’t get any cuter, Scarlette WOWS me again! What an adorable ensemble. Her expressions are to die for. Hope y’all have a wonderful & safe 4th of July.

You are totally NOT crazy. Well, I did not attend the same school with you two, so I don’t REALLY know what went on there. I do know that we stood up every morning for the Pledge, facing the flag with hands on hearts. And I’m pretty dang sure I learned all those songs while in elementary school. I don’t vividly remember singing them, but I’m much older than you and have CRS. ;)
p.s. Please give my best wishes to the crazy person.

All of a sudden Tom Petty sprung to mind. I totally read this yesterday without that happening. Weird. Scarlette is beautiful as always. You must be a proud mama! Thanks for making me smile.
