Do you like my rhyming title? Also, do you like how I felt really awkward trying to get a good picture of myself all made up, and so then I called Jeff over to take them for me, and he was all, “Why don’t you try laughing so that you look more natural?” and so then I made him tell me jokes, only, once we actually got a laughing picture I just looked way more awkward than when we started? This is why I’m not a full time beauty blogger. Because of all the awkward.
There’s a star on my calendar next to the words “Girls’ Night Out” — not so that I won’t forget about it but because it’s so highly anticipated. I love my girl time, and I love any excuse to wear my five and a half inch nude wedges. Let’s be honest: those are not practical for motherhood. I just bought them because I wanted to look like Princess Kate. Which totally worked because whenever I wear these shoes, people are like, “OHMYGOSH YOU LOOK JUST LIKE PRINCESS KATE!” That’s not true. No one has ever said that to me. I’m just trying to justify my shoe purchase.
Anyhow, because I got all dressed up and because Mary Kay sent me some beauty products to play with, I spent some extra time on my make-up for girls’ night. (Click CONTINUE READING to read more + enter for an opportunity to win a fabulous gift basket from Mary Kay!) I applied a little bronzer (because I’m obsessed with bronzer after my seeing my friend Stephanie’s tutorial) and then the Mineral Cheek Color in Shy Blush. I used the Mineral Eye Color in Truffle to create a dramatic, smoky eye.

Here is my beauty tip for you: After using my pencil liner, I dip my eyeliner brush in some water and then in the Black Pearl Mineral Eye Color and painted over my liner with it. That way I get a little bit of sparkle. Also, by “eyeliner brush” I totally mean a fine tipped paint brush. You can’t even convince me that they aren’t totally the same thing.
Here is another tip: don’t tweeze your eyebrows into two different shapes. You’re welcome.
But my favorite new product is the Mary Kay® Lash Primer topped with the Mary Kay® Lash Love Mascara. When I wear this mascara, no one looks at Scarlette and then at me and remarks that, “She must get her beautiful long lashes from her father.” Thanks so much, random lady at Target.
I also wore the NouriShine Plus™ Lip Gloss in Café Au Lait over a pale pink lip liner, and I got a ton of compliments on my lipstick. People were all, “That lipstick is beautiful and makes you look just like Princess Kate!” except that no one actually said the last part of that sentence. Probably they were saying in it inside their heads though.
I’ve been layering the Rock ‘n’ Red over my favorite matte red lipstick when I want to look like Taylor Swift. Which is basically all the days I don’t want to look like Princess Kate. So Tuesdays and Fridays.

I can’t wait to try your tip with the eyeliner and sparkling eyeshadow…..because can you ever really get enough sparkle?!?!
Thanks for the opportunity to win! Happy New Year to you!
Wash your face every day& MOISTURIZE!
I’m still on the hunt for great beauty tips, cuz’ I can use all the help I can get. I could also use an awesome gift basket of Mary Kay! And this is the second positive review of the Lash Primer/Lash Love Mascara duo, so it’s on my list of products to try.
The lipstick color looks great on you!
I have really learned how important it is to moisturize your skin.
Also, I always seem to live by the “less is more” motto!
Well girl I don’t think you look awkward in the photos at all. I think that is just how you feel about taking them. The photos look lovely. I totally understand about girls night out and getting some time to be yourself and not just mommy. I tend to lean toward the less is more where make up is concerned, besides living in centeral Texas where it is nearly always hot and humid. Which means that make up just runs off my face, I stick to some lipstick and some eyeliner and mascara.
Well now I want to see a picture of the shoes!!! My beauty tip is to wear eye product (eye cream) right out of the womb! Every teen aged girl I know has been asked by me if they have started wearing eye product yet! In fact, you might want to start this little regimen with Scarlette soon
My tip would be to always make sure you have adequate lighting when doing your makeup!
Oooooh–I’d love to win! My makeup tip is to use regular lotion instead of expensive eye makeup remover to remove your makeup. Works just as well, moisturizes, and is a tiny fraction of the cost.
How important it is to wash your face every night
Would love to read more beauty tips as I need all the help I can get.
I have found that keeping a spray bottle of distilled water to be my best friend when using loose mineral powders. When I am finished putting on my makeup I spritz it on my face and it sets the powders and it takes away that powdery look and it feels much more comfortable. Couldn’t tolerate the ‘loose stuff’ without the spray. Makeup done swiftly, natural looking and feeling great. Always moisturize and use a primer to fill in pores and lines.

Love the lip gloss!!! Love the water and eye makeup tip to add sparkle to your liner!
I dip an eyeliner brush in water to make any color eye shadown into liner.
In addition to all the other great moisturizing tips above, put you liquid foundation on with a foundation brush. Truly makes a difference!
My best beauty tip (that I learned the hard way) is: to look younger, don’t overpluck your eyebrows.

Best beauty tip: Sometimes, less is more.
I love Mary Kay products, but every time I find a lip color that I love they discontinue making it.
I love the makeup primer and highlighter pen.
I’ve only tried Mary Kay mascara, but I love it! Liking everyone’s beauty tips as well – I think washing your face every night (I love my Clarisonic Mia) and using a retinol cream from an early age are key to good skin!
Most important tip – blend, blend, blend
Mine is to apply foundation in downward strokes to make your peach fuzz less noticeable. Peach fuzz tends to grow downward.
I have no beauty tips to share. I need all the help I can get! Thanks for the opportunity.
You are costing me money.
It’s all stuff I needed- at least I tell myself that so thanks. I used to always use mary kay- will need to check out that mascara -sounds awesome!
My greatest tip is to drink lots of water!
I tweeted this at https://twitter.com/LizzyAllen123/status/285882228024672257
So, I don’t get why you used photos of Princess Kate in this posting?
OMG – it’s KA – not Princess Kate!
You are adorable!
Get a good amount of sleep. It is what helps my skin the most. Water is second to that.
Would love some new Mary Kay!
Best beauty tip: sunscreen! This mom could really use a makeover and the Mary Kay giveaway would be perfect!
Love the post! I feel awkcity doing self portraits too–the makeup looks great though! As a self proclaimed minimalist I love the tips and how natural you look in the
MK. Would love the chance to try it on myself!!
always use an eyelash curler!
you look so pretty! love it
You look beautiful here! Could you please provide a link to your friend Stephanie’s bronzer tutorial? Thanks!
I think most of what I was going to add has been recovered – sleep, water, and less is more!
Er… I mean *covered. Where’s my coffee?
I also tweeted! https://twitter.com/anna_dsm/status/286876510546173953
Drink a lot of water for great skin!
My comment isn’t the best beauty tip I have, but it is definitely good to know, and everyone else has already shared the good stuff
I would recommend never curling your eyelashes after your mascara has dried…they can break off and will NOT be long, curly, and beautiful, but will be ugly, jagged stumps. Curl first or while wet!
Is this giveaway still open?! I just saw it on FB today, but now that I am reading your blog, I see the dates that say it ended in December, 2012?? Just in case, here is my comment: I use lip liner to cover my entire lip before applying lipstick, and it lasts much longer!
I tweeted about it too! https://twitter.com/ShellyBooBoo2/status/293923234712285184
I recently learned the eye shawdow turned liner trick. Its AWESOME! Use it all the time!!
I have a shell that can be used by itself in the Summer, underneath a Blazer, or with a blouse!
oops, wrong comment, I mean, lot’s of water for the skin, since our skin is the biggest organ we have
