Weathering Winter With Cetaphil (+ A $100 Visa Gift Card Giveaway!)

I have polycystic ovarian syndrome, also known as PCOS. Or to those of us suffering with it “THE BANE OF OUR EXISTENCE.” Because not only does it hinder your ability to have a baby, it also wreaks havoc on your skin. It’s a fun ailment, that one. Or not.

This is why I’m totally skin care obsessed, because no one told my pores that I am closing in on thirty for goodness sakes and could they please get their act together and stop breaking me out like a fourteen year old girl? I’m known to try every new skincare product that comes along promising drastic results. My husband is not fond of walking down the skin care aisle with me when we go to the store because I’m all “THIS ONE! I HAVEN’T TRIED THIS ONE!” and apparently my exuberance over exfoliating masks embarrasses him or something.

(Click CONTINUE READING to print a $3 off coupon plus enter to win a $100 Visa Gift Card!)

The staple of my routine is Cetaphil® Gentle Skin Cleanser, ever since my roommate introduced me to it back in college. I admit to being disloyal and straying from it every now and then when a flashy bottle or an ad showing that cute girl from the Remember The Titans movie and her nice, clear skin catches my eye. But over the ten year course of our relationship, I always return to the dependable cream and blue bottle. Of all the skincare products that I own, this is the one I can’t live without, the one I keep a travel bottle filled with at all times.

The thing is, it doesn’t dry out my skin. And my skin is pretty dry any time of year. I know right? My skin is dry AND acne-prone. THANKS FOR NOTHING, OVARIES. But without fail winter comes and my skin is all “WHAT IS GOING ON?!” And I’m like “Baby, it’s cold outside.”

Oh wait, that’s not me. That’s Nick Lachey. (STAY OUT OF IT, NICK LACHEY! <- If you got that joke, then you and I would be the best of friends.)

Probably scientific studies could be done about how dry my skin gets in the wintertime while still managing to NOT BE CLEAR. I’m not at all bitter about this, obviously. And also? I’m really fair skinned. Do you know what runs in my family? Skin cancer. I am not even kidding. I was dealt an AMAZING genetic hand, right?

So any moisturizer I use has to have SPF in it, even when the sun is nowhere near the northern hemisphere (what, I paid attention in science, y’all) so that I am forced to rely on things like blush for a little bit of color. Because seriously, skin cancer is no joke.

In all of my years using Cetaphil products as my cleanser, I had never tried a Cetaphil brand moisturizer. Don’t ask me why. I don’t have a good answer. I could make up something witty but the truth is that I often overlook things that are totally obvious. Like how yesterday I was stacking blocks with Scarlette and Jeff said “Wow, if you get five stacked I will be really impressed!” and I answered “Well, I just did but Lettie knocked them down.” And he cocked his head to the side, patted my shoulder and said “I thought it was pretty obvious that I was talking to the BABY there, honey.” In other news, I am AMAZING at stacking baby blocks.

So Cetaphil brand sent me their Cetaphil® Daily Facial Moisturizer with SPF 15 to try out. I’m really working on being less long-winded, I swear. It’s pretty light for a moisturizer that has SPF in it; many other brands that I have tried feel heavy or oily. But it does help give the extra moisture I need for the colder winter weather. I can’t claim a long-term love affair with it like the one I have with my Cetaphil® Gentle Skin Cleanser, but I will tell you that I definitely have a crush. The ball’s in your court now, moisturizer. Play well, my friend.

I also try other things, but always go back to Cetaphil! I’ll have to try the moisturizer.

  2. 2

I haven’t found that product that I can’t live without yet. Maybe I should try Cetaphil!

  3. 3

Ditto here…I haven’t found one I loved so much I couldn’t live without it. BUT I’m going to try Cetaphil…thanks for the coupon and the heads up!

  4. 4

I will have to try Cetaphil. I try a lot of things too and never stick with anything in particular. Half the time I end up using the bar of soap in the shower! Probably not my best choice. :)

  5. 5

Dove body wash is the one for me. I’ve used some really fancy and expensive body washes over the years (I do not like bar soap) but I always come back to Dove. It leaves my skin soft and helps with dryness – although I still suffer from that a little. Will have to try the Cetaphil!

  6. 6

The one product I can’t live without is my Clinique Dramatically Different Lotion.

  7. 7

I cannot live without adding a drop of Vitamin E oil for each pump of lotion in the morning. It keeps my skin soft and moisturized all day without feeling greasy or sticky. Plus, having done it for a few years now, even the worst scar I had on my knee from my childhood is almost completely gone. I also credit that, and good skin genetics, to no pregnancy stretch marks. ;)

Imagine my dismay at being 53 and still having breakouts!! Rosacea and me are not liking each other. My face is red, rough and patchy and all breakouts to that and it is not a pretty picture. I’ve gone from olive oil to prescription strength face wash to cleanse my face and haven’t settled on a must have product for washing. I do really like the Mary Kay Extra Emollient Night Cream to try to combat the extra dryness. I haven’t tried Cetaphil but am willing to give that a try too–especially if they pick me as the winner–you know, I’m sacrificial like that.

  12. 13

My son’s skin is terribly dry. Our pediatrician recommended Ceatphil! Can’t live without the lotion.

I use Basis skin wash but my daughter only uses Cetaphil and it does a wonderful job for her.

  16. 17

Ooooh! Oooh! We can totally be best friends. Does it count if I only saw that clip on the Soup?? As far as skin care goes, I’ll just saw baking soda b/c I use it to exfoliate everything.

My preteen daughter, (can’t believe I just said that or that I have one) was recommended by the dermatologist to use Cetaphil. So far so good. I have not used it but will try it for sure because I have oily, break-out prone, fair, skin-cancer genetics, history as well. I have also used sebamed and like it a lot. Would love the chance to win!!! Do they have anything to counteract my crow’s feet? (remember pre-teen daughter?)

  30. 31

I love the original cetaphil cream in the large tub…it is amazing on my face and on my baby’s severly dry skin, love it.

  31. 32

i think i too have tried everything new with pretty packaging and big promises, i have never found one that works. i haven’t even heard of cetaphil before!

  32. 33
    Chris Peden says:

I use the sensitive Cetaphil. Recommended by my dermatologist and I still use it. Used it with a face cloth and water and now use it with a Clarisonic and water. I used to sell very high end cosmetics-Cetaphil is a staple. I have been sent other things to try-always immediately go back to my Cetaphil.

  42. 43
    Corrine Adams says:

Iam definitley foing to try the Cetaphil cleanser as that is one of what seems like 100′s that has never been on my radar. I can’t say I have love for any skin care products right now. I have really dry skin and every moisturizer I use causes breakouts. ugh.

  43. 44

I, too, have PCOS (shaking my fist!!) so my favorite skin care product is a little pill called Doxycycline prescribed by my dermatologist. I’m 28 and have probably tried every cleanser/ moisturizer combination out there. Nothing has worked like this pill. Oh yeah, I like to roll my eyes at the Proactiv commercials.

  44. 45

I have always really liked Biore products–they sold me with that whole nose-strip cleaner years ago–but also resort to St. Ives when on a budget (which does a fine job, I must say). Samantha Kerr says:

I totally got that OTH reference, so we could definitely be the best of friends! I used Proactiv and loved it for years, but it’s so expensive and it weirdly stains any towel I use while using it, so I’ve been on the lookout for a new go-to product. I will have to try the Cetaphil!

  51. 52

I use Cetaphil everynight, works so well on my sensitive skin!

  52. 53

I use Neutrogena stress acne relief cleanser and it has seemed to work very well for me!

  53. 54

I use the same face wash, and love how it seems to work well for everyone in my family…clearing up what could be a lot of clutter in the shower! That being said, my ultimate can’t-live-without-it skin care product is Olay oil minimizing toner. This sounds totally bananas, since my skin is more on the dry side also, but this toner helps to balance out my moisture level.

I love Cetaphil! It’s possible that you have Rosacea. It is very common in women. Talk to your dermatologist about it. I had the same symptoms for years and a small dose of mynocycline daily has cleared it…and the sometime splotch red nose and face…right up!

I love Cetaphil too. I use the face wash for normal to oily skin and it just makes my face feel clean and refreshed! I also use the lotion in the jar that I mix in a prescription ointment for dry skin. I love the way it makes my arms and legs feel! It’s very thick and creamy. I haven’t used their facial moisturizer though. I may have to give that a try.

My dad has used the lotion for years, did not know about the washed, would love to try them. I have very itchy skin, and like to use those items geared for sensitive skin.

For me, it’s been Cetaphil face wash for years. Now, I’ve added a sonic cleaning device and it’s like Cetaphil squared!

I haven’t yet been able to find a specific skin care product that I can’t live without :( I would like to find a good moisturizer with SPF, so I think I have to try the Cetaphil one soon.

Everytime after I shower, I need a body lotion that will keep my skin moisturized and protected. I have tried the Cetaphil moisturizing cream and love how rich and quickly my skin drinks this up :)

  182. 183

Cetaphil diehard here! I’d love to win!

I’ve got PCOS and the hubby has ectopic dermatitis. We’ve got bad skin issues all around. We use Cetaphil because the dermatologist recommends it above any other soap. My skin on my face is so dry it has moved into my hairline. So now I look like Josie from Josie and the pussy cats with a white strip in my hair even after I was it.

  184. 185

All it takes for my face to be supple and hydrated all day long is just a peanut size of Cetaphil Moisturizing Cream !! Nothing works better !!
