Spring Style At Sears

This post brought to you by Sears. All opinions are 100% mine.

Imagine my surprise when Sears asked me to browse their website and share some of my favorite outifts and accessories. I was all “Um…I thought Sears sold appliances.” I blame this on all my years spent watching reality tv shows that are about home makeovers and also the fact that I live in the boonies and never get to the mall. The latter of which is why it is works in my favor that Sears has expanded their website and added lots of new designer brands.

I mean, no worries they still have things like DeWalt tools, which is good to know for Father’s Day because my husband wants to cut things, apparently. I don’t even know. But they also have things like Michael Kors and Ray Ban. Once upon a time my friend Jeanette accidentally bought a child sized pair of of Ray Bans and then instead of sending them back she gave them to me, because I am the size of a small child. That worked out really well for me.

But if you want some, you can get them at Sears. On sale too, I saw them in the newest arrivals section.

Here are a few other things I found while browsing around:

(yellow sandals, pale pink skinny jeans, striped gray dolman top, gray relic handbag, ray ban sunglasses)

Now you can order online and pick up in store. (Sears says they guarantee to have your item ready in five minutes or less or you’ll get a $5 in store coupon!) Apaprently they are serious about this whole “website” thing because they are adding hundreds of new items every day. You can check out the featured marketplace offers to see what is new or visit Sears to see it all for yourselves. They’re even on twitter now so you can tweet your finds to friends and family. It’s always good to get a girlfriends opinion on a new pair of shoes.

Pretty Wicked Moms (bless their hearts)

 | This is a compensated review post, y’all. It’s also hilarious. |

The first time I experienced mommy judgement was when I was pregnant. I mean, I hadn’t even had my baby yet and so I was totally taken aback by the whole thing. I had taken my niece to a birthday party and was cutting up a hot dog for her. She was very excited about this, exclaiming “Keeka, I can’t wait! I just can’t wait!” because apparently when you are two years old, hot dogs are THE MOST EXCITING THING EVER.

I was mid slice when another mom glanced down at my plate and said “Ohhhhh….”

I looked up at her because due to the tone of her voice I thought that maybe she was pregnant and the sight of a hot dog had totally repulsed her. Or something. And that is when she followed with “You know, cutting hot dogs like that is a choking hazard.”

Which, granted, was a good little tidbit to tuck away for the future but definitely could have had a nicer delivery. I joked that it was a good thing I was getting a practice run on a kid who wasn’t mine. She raised her eyebrows and walked away and I thought “I do not think we will be friends, hot dog lady.”

Lifetime is airing a new series called Pretty Wicked Moms which is basically similar to The Real Housewives except that these women all have young children. I don’t typically watch those shows unless I’m being forced to by my mother because she loves them. But this one is set in Atlanta and I always love to see my hometown on reality television. And Y’ALL. I’m totally going to visit the store in the show and see these women in person.

Normally I’m pretty lax about mommy judgement, now that I am one and due to the aforementioned experience but I have to say…I judged all over the place watching the premiere episode. I mean, I can’t even. Here. See for yourselves:

BLESS THEIR HEARTS.

Also, Lifetime wants me to tell you to: Tune in to watch parenting like you’ve never seen before with the first episode of Pretty Wicked Moms on Tuesday, June 4, at 10:00 pm ET/PT on Lifetime

And I want to tell you that seriously, if you watch this PLEASE come back to this post and talk about it with me because I am DYING TO TALK ABOUT IT and so I’m anxiously awaiting June 4th so that y’all can all chat about it with me.

Get A Free Book At Dollar General Courtesy of MARS®

This post brought to you by Dollar General. All opinions are 100% mine.

If there is anything that I love it is BOOKS and the word FREE. And if there is anything that Lucy Dog loves it is dog food. She also enjoys lying in the sun and barking at shadows, so she’s really not THAT hard to please.

When I got this email about free books for buying MARS® Petcare products at Dollar General I was like “SWEET!” because it listed Pedigree® and that is the sort of food we buy for Lucy Dog. She is getting pretty old (13! In people years!) and so we buy her a special kind for her joints since she’s getting a little creaky and sometimes needs some help getting on the couch. Let’s not talk about that or I’ll get really sad.

SO ANYHOW.

Next I was like “Wait, I did not know that MARS®  owned Pedigree®. I just thought that they made candy so I totally learned something new today!” Then I googled around to make sure the candy factory and the pet food factory were seperate because I am slightly neurotic. (No worries, my Snickers addiction is safe, y’all.)

The point of this is that right now Dollar General is holding a promotion where you will get a coupon for a free book when you buy $10 worth of Pedigree® or Tempatations® petcare products.

And when you redeem your coupon for your free book, MARS® Petcare will donate $1 to the Dollar General Literacy Foundation to support literacy initiatives.  That’s just a good deal all around right there. The free book is from Bendon Publishing and as I’m headed to do our weekly shopping tomorrow I will see if it is a bodice ripper ;)

Sweet Treats: Werther’s Original Sugar Free Candy

Werther's Original Sugar Free Candy
Growing up my grandfather kept a candy dish next to his brown leather recliner. I can’t remember a time that it wasn’t fully stocked with Werther’s candies. We played a little game with him, one where we snuck up by his side and darted out a hand to grab a candy before he caught us. He always caught us. And he always gave us the candy, even if it was almost dinnertime. “It’ll be our little secret” he’d mock whisper. [Read more...]

Getting Our Garden On with Scotts

This post brought to you by Scotts Miracle-Gro. All opinions are 100% mine.

We finished putting in our vegetable garden a few weeks ago and now I'm working on pretty-ing up the front of the house. We have a few rosebushes that we planted near some gardenia bushes around the front porch when we first moved in that have grown up tall and beautiful over the past couple of years. I totally recommend the knock-out roses because I have not managed to kill them despite shameful neglect when I was pregnant. And they still just keep coming back bigger and better, which is a pretty good testament to their name. The left side of the porch, however, is bare and in need of a facelift.

I agreed to write about Scott's because we've been using the Scotts Nature Scapes mulch in our own flower garden to help maintain moisture and prevent weeds.

Now they have Scotts Florida Select Natural Eucalyptus Mulch which is made 100% from sustainably harvested  Eucalyptus trees and so it doesn't have any waste materials (like leftover construction wood or ground up pallet parts) so I put that on my list of gardening supplies we'd need to spruce up the other side of the porch, along with some weedblock landscape fabric (no one wants to be pulling weeds constantly) and some new gardening gloves because I have no idea where mine disappeared to.

That's not true. I have an idea and it's name is Scarlette.

A tip: do not put your mulch down until after all your seeds have sprouted. You are welcome :)

Anyhow, here is what our house looked like when we moved in:

And here is what it looked like after tearing out some dead bushes and planting some flowers and adding Scotts Nature Scapes mulch

And here is what I want it to look like when I finish putting in all the new flowers for this year:
Okay, that might be a bit of a reach but still, I think it's fairly do-able, right?

So if you're into the whole sustainable gardening thing, which I am, then grab a bag and get started!
